Which Earrings Best Suit My Face Shape?

When it comes to taking care of our appearance, most of us go by a few ground rules. Like wearing clothes that flatter our body shape, wearing makeup that suits our skin tone and having a haircut that suits our face shape. But what are the rules for earrings?

Join us as we take a look at face shapes and how certain earrings complement them.

What are the most common face shapes?

The typical face shapes are oval, square, round, triangle, heart and diamond shape.

How do I find out my face shape?

There are a few ways to identify which face shape you have and some are more involved than others! Try out some of these methods below to discover yours.

Take a good look in the mirror

Put your hair up and off your face so you can clearly see the outline of your face. Take a good look at your facial features- your forehead, cheekbones and jawline. It’s a useful way to identify characteristics you have and understand where they sit and essentially the core of what face shape group you fit into.

If you have a rounded chin perhaps you have a round face shape. Or you might have large eyes and a pointed jaw, meaning you may have a heart-shaped face.

Trace your face

A useful way of finding out is by using a washable pen and drawing your face outline on the mirror. Take a look at the finished result. The team at Aquila Jewellery had fun with this one!

What are the best earrings for my face shape?

A general approach is not to choose earrings that mirror your face shape, but earrings that are the exact opposite of your face shape! So if you have a round face you don’t choose hoops, you choose dangle earrings.

What earrings suit an oval face shape?

Oval faces have gentle curves and proportions such as foreheads wider than the chin, high and prominent cheekbones and a soft rounded jawline.

They tend to suit all styles of earrings. From teardrop earrings to large hoop earrings, those with oval faces can wear any style easily.

DO

Wear hoops. They are perfect for oval face shapes as they draw attention to the cheekbones.

Why not try our Banda textured gold creole hoops? They are half-crescent shaped, uniquely textured and ideal for everyday wear and special occasions too.

DON’T

It’s best to avoid very narrow, long earrings in case they elongate the face further making it look drawn.

What earrings suit a round face shape?

Round faces have a circular shape and often have a forehead as wide as the cheekbones. They have soft cheekbones, a rounded jawline and no prominent angles or corners.

DO

Choose long earrings. Why? Because the length of the earrings draws the eye down, creating the illusion of length. Choose elongated earrings like teardrop earrings or dangle earrings which elongate round faces.

Our Agonda gold trio drop earrings are the perfect choice with their eye-catching texture, movement and of course, length. Wear your hair off your face to let the earrings shine.

DON'T

  • Avoid large hoop earrings as they can accentuate the roundness of your face and make it appear wider than it is.

  •

What earrings suit a square face shape?

A square face shape is characterised by a straight forehead and a strong jawline. The overall appearance is symmetrical and angular.
