To accelerate the comprehensive use of coal mine water, the Inner Mongolia Energy Bureau convened an on-site meeting on May 28 with energy officials from six regional leagues and cities and representatives from 21 coal mining companies. The meeting revealed that Inner Mongolia is speeding up efforts to improve mine water utilization, aiming to push the regional utilization rate beyond 60% by the end of this year.

Mine water is a crucial unconventional water source. Enhancing its classification, treatment, and reuse can reduce dependence on other water sources, cut environmental pollution, and help transform the coal industry toward greener, low-carbon, and sustainable development. This shift not only boosts the competitiveness and sustainability of coal enterprises but also supports high-quality regional economic growth.

The recently issued “Inner Mongolia Water Conservation Action Plan” sets a target to increase mine water utilization to over 60% region-wide by year-end, with the Yellow River Basin aiming for more than 70%.

Currently, Inner Mongolia is advancing coal mine water projects. Of the 27 projects planned for this year, 10 have started construction, with the remainder progressing as scheduled. Once fully operational, these projects are expected to reduce mine water discharge by over 10 million cubic meters annually and increase mine water reuse by around 7 million cubic meters per year.
