Buying bedding will always be personal. Whether it's a plush pillow, fresh sheets, or a brand-new mattress, it has to suit your sleep needs, fit your bedroom style and sit within your budget. Direct-to-customer brands have made the bedding buying process simpler, and cheaper, but finding the best bedding for you is always worth the investment.

As H&G's dedicated shopping expert and sleep editor, I've tested more bed sheets, pillows, mattress toppers, and duvets than I can count. Thanks to many bedding brands, I  try out and review some of the best products on the market, and after over a year of sleeping on the job there are some stand-out retailers I regularly recommend.

With their own repertoire of products that cater to certain interior schemes, and sleep preferences, these are the ten best places to buy bedding. I've found reliable stores that supply the essentials, those with an eco-focus, and high-end brands that offer luxury bed sheets for a reasonable price. I've got you covered with the best one-stop shops with everything you need to upgrade your sleep.

What makes a great bedding brand

How I selected the best bedding brands
When testing bedding, there are certain things I look for, including cost, quality, how easy it is to care for, comfort, and style. But there are two big boxes a brand must tick to make them an overall great bedding retailer. This is the range of quality products on offer, and overall value for money. Different brands will have different selling points, so not all can be the best eco-friendly, or luxury bedding brands, but they all must have enough products to upgrade your entire sleep set-up and be reasonably priced based on material and design.

What to look for
Look for bedding within your budget, and only the products do you need. If you're looking for affordability, for example, Parachute offers good quality bedding at the cheaper end of the spectrum, and Bed Threads' bundles include everything you need at a price cheaper than if you were to buy it all separately. But if you know you love linen and want only the best linen bed sheets, then a brand like Cultiver is your go-to. The brand for you will depend on how much you are willing to spend and what you're looking to get out of your purchase.

FAQs

How to shop for new bedding?

With so many bedding products on the market and masses of marketing jargon, shopping for new bedding can get overwhelming. To help navigate your way through all the products available from the best bedding brands, you first know what you're looking for. Here are a few tips:

1. Figure out what bedding material will suit your sleep needs and bedroom style most.
2. Thread count isn't the only indicator of quality. Keep an eye out for all-natural material composition, manufacturing certifications, and weave types.
3. Have a budget. Bedding can get expensive, and while it's always worth investing in better sleep, there are great value bedding buys to help you get a great night's sleep for less.

When is the best time to buy bedding?

If you're in need of a new duvet, sheet set, or pillow you shouldn't wait to get your best sleep yet – especially if you're in need of a new mattress. But if fresh bedding is just on your Wishlist, then it could be worth waiting for sales periods to pick up your new bedding buy. There are key sales times like Memorial Day, Black Friday, and Presidents Day where most bedding brands will offer sales sitewide. However, research suggests that the best time to buy bedding is in January. After Christmas, bedding and linens will be at their lowest price. At this time, retailers may also be trying to shift stock to make way for new collections and colorways.

While buying great bedding from the best-recommended retailers will work wonders, investing in a mattress suited to you should be a top priority. Your duvet could be temperature-regulating, your sheets soft and your pillows plush, but if your sleep surface is uncomfortable, you could be harming the quality of your sleep.
