Rubber Sheets - Types and Applications

Rubber sheeting can be used in a wide assortment of applications across various industrial sectors.  Rubber sheets are preferred among many industries due to their ease of use and efficiency as an insulator.  Rubber sheeting is available in many different durometers. (Durometer is a numerical value which indicates the resistance to indentation). Rubber sheeting is perfect for applications where sealing or protection is needed and can be a very cost effective material to use.

Neoprene Rubber Sheets:  A synthetic rubber made by polymerizing 2-chlor-1, 3-butadiene. Neoprene compounds are preferred for their resistance to oil, sunlight and ozone. There are various types, most of which are vulcanizable without the use or sulfur. Neoprene is resistant to ammonia, freon, oxygen, ozone and many other fluids. An excellent material for use in pump and refrigeration applications. Neoprene is a synthetic rubber used to make gaskets which are commonly used for exposed environment applications, such as those involving sea water. 

Buna-Nitrile Rubber Sheets: (aka Buna-N, NBR, Nitrile) is the standard in hydraulic and pneumatic sealing elastomers. Its oil-resistant nature makes it the top choice of materials being used with petroleum based hydraulic fluids. Buna-N has a good abrasion resistance, high tensile strength and resistance to compression set.

Viton Sheets (High performance Fluoroelastomer) is a synthetic rubber sheet that performs well in hot and corrosive environments with a -20°F to 400°F temperature rating.  Is is resistant to oils, fuels, lubricants, most mineral acids, and aliphatic hydrocarbon fluids that act as solvents to other types of rubber.  It has excellent resistance to fungus and mold.

EPDM Rubber Sheets:  Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. An elastomer is used in applications that deal with acids, weak alkalies, and automotive brake fluids.  Most effective rubber outdoors with high resistance to ozone and sunlight.

Silicone Rubber Sheets: Silicone is a synthetic rubber used to make gaskets. Silicone can withstand 200°C, and is chemically inert, which makes it superior in the food processing industry.
