Ankle Foot Orthosis

What conditions can an ankle foot orthosis treat?

You may be offered AFOs to:

  • Realign your foot and ankle joints
  • Prevent abnormal movement
  • Support and heal weakened muscles and tendons
  • Support and protect your ankle and foot joints

At MyFootMedic, we primarily use foot orthoses to treat ankle issues such as:

Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD)
You may develop this condition if your posterior tibial tendon tears or becomes inflamed. It can lead the arch to collapse and the ankle to deform.

Severe tendon problems
Other tendon issues can cause pain in the ankles or foot. By supporting your lower leg, ankle, and foot, AFOs can reduce discomfort and allow the tendons to heal or prevent the condition from worsening.

Foot drop
Do you have difficulty lifting the front of your foot? Flexible foot drop (or drop foot) can be caused by nerve damage or injury. Ankle foot orthoses can help improve your functional mobility when walking.

Severe ankle arthritis
Arthritis can affect different areas of the body. With ankle arthritis, non-surgical options such as ankle foot orthoses can help improve mobility.
