Properties of HPMC

HPMCs are hydrophilic, i.e. they are water-soluble.
HPMCs are biodegradable.
Non-aqueous solvents can be used to mix HPMC, which is also soluble in polar organic solvents.
When heated, it forms a gel with a gelatin temperature of 75-90 o C.
It is a white or off-white cellulose powder or granule.
Its solution is stable at room temperature.

To meet various needs, HPMC has a good water retention effect, simple structure and wide range of viscosity. When added as an additive, it greatly improves mortar performance. It also enhances the pumping and spraying properties of the mortar.
Several studies and laboratory experiments have shown that HPMC forms a colloidal film in water, including the basis of a 3D network, which alters the water retention capacity and contributes to easy mixing of cement and sand particles; HPMC colloids adsorb and act as bridges due to the spatial network structure of the film. By forming a grid-like distribution of fine particles, the hydrated material also forms a unique structure that looks like a fiber tree. An important link between plastic viscosity and water retention strength of cement mortar is established.
